If you want Halloween party dancers in NYC for a bachelorette, keep it male, keep it in the living room, and lock Fri Oct 30 or Sat Oct 31 early if that’s the night. Those two dates are the peak. I’m not quoting a board from here.

This post is male only. Firefighter, police officer, vampire, a male-revue-style suit, superhero silhouette. That’s the menu. Male strippers for the bride and her people. Don’t ask me to add a second gender to a bachelorette that already decided.

I’ve been booking parties since 1989. I danced for 22 years. Halloween bachelorettes in this city are sashes, a candy bowl, and a firefighter jacket that has to survive a walk-up.

Firefighter and cop still earn the scream

Firefighter and police officer are the two looks I get asked for every October. They work because the room gets it in one second. Jacket, hat, boots. They fail when the gear can’t turn around in a one-bedroom. Tell me the floor. I’ll tell you if a full coat is a bad idea.

Cop is the same story. Fast to read. Keep the hallway clean. The show is inside. A cop costume in a building lobby is a conversation with a doorman you don’t want.

Vampire and the revue-style suit

Vampire is Halloween without a TED talk. Cape, shirt, a look that comes off without taking out a lamp. It plays in a living room. It does not play if the cape is a sail.

A male-revue-style suit is the other lane. Black jacket, tie, the whole “he’s overdressed on purpose” thing. People ask for a movie name. We do the silhouette, not a trademark night. If the bride wants funny and dressed, this is it. If she wants horror, pick vampire or skip to firefighter.

Superhero without the courtroom

Cape, boots, a color block. That’s useful. Movie-accurate armor is not. We’re a private party, not a premiere. If the group chat is arguing about logos, pick firefighter and go live your life.

I’ve seen bachelorettes try to run three looks in one hour. Don’t. Pick one. Let it land. The bride doesn’t need a costume change in a bathroom the size of a closet.

Date first, jacket second

Fri Oct 30 and Sat Oct 31 go first. Lock the date early. Then we talk firefighter versus suit. I won’t claim what’s open. I will tell you those two nights are when this city actually throws the party.

Write a door time. Halloween bachelorettes run late because of photos in the stairwell. Give them twenty minutes to get in, put the sashes down, close the door. Then start.

One person at the door. Buzzer. Cell that answers. Sashes stay inside. Pre-game photos in the living room, not on the stoop in matching outfits. Covered on the way in and out.

The room still has rules

Clear the coffee table. Path to the bathroom. Speaker inside. When the set ends, volume down. Talk is fine. Two more hours of the same box is how a tolerated twenty minutes becomes a knock, and on Halloween the building is already loud.

Headcount against furniture. Ten is a party. Eighteen in a one-bedroom is a complaint. Plus-ones after the list is set are a no. The bride doesn’t need a stranger in a devil headband in the only clear patch.

Bring a covered layer for the walk in. A firefighter jacket on a stoop in Midtown is a photo you don’t need on someone else’s story. Keep the night looking like a house.

If the bride wants funny more than scary, say that. Revue-style suit. If she wants a jump scare, vampire. Don’t make me guess from a Pinterest board with forty pins.

One friend on the door, one friend on the list. Those are different jobs. Halloween bachelorettes leak plus-ones because ‘she’s already in the costume.’ She’s still a plus-one. No.

People forget the coat. October 31 in this city is cold on the stoop even when the apartment is hot. Have a cover-up by the door so nobody is standing in the hallway in costume arguing about the buzzer.

If two friends want two different start times, you pick one. The show starts when you said it starts, not when the last person finishes a cigarette downstairs.

Call when the list is closed

Lock Fri Oct 30 or Sat Oct 31 if that’s the bachelorette. Then pick the look. Call (929) 235-8788 with the date, the borough, and who’s at the door.

Here’s what I tell every maid of honor: male only, one look, date first. Call when the list is done growing. Don’t make me guess the borough from a pin drop.
