I’ve been booking parties since 1989. Halloween cosplay in this city is its own animal. People want a specific silhouette, a wig that stays on, and a set that still works in a Bushwick loft with a pole they bought in March. I can work with a vibe. I can’t ship a trademarked face.

This lane is female strippers in costume. Not a convention panel. A private living-room set with a look you actually named.

Anime and game looks that survive a hallway

Speak in types. Dark mage. School-uniform adjacent. Armor-and-skirt silhouette. Cat-ear rogue. You know the posters. Name the silhouette, the colors, the energy. Don’t send me a screenshot of a character I can’t legally put on a dancer and expect a 1:1 clone.

Wigs, boots, props. That’s where nights die. A staff that needs six feet of swing in a railroad apartment is a no. A helmet you can’t see out of is a no. A look that takes forty minutes to get out of is a no. The show still has to move.

I’ve seen people try to run a full lore briefing before the music. Don’t. Your friends already know the reference. Let the costume do the first ten seconds.

Superhero silhouettes without the lawsuit

Cape, boots, a color block people recognize from across the room. That’s the useful version. Custom logos and movie-accurate armor belong in a different business. We do private parties, not premieres.

If the group is split between “make it accurate” and “make it hot,” pick hot that can still walk up four flights. Accuracy is how you end up with a costume that can’t sit down.

Bunny, cat, and the rest of the ear looks

Cat and bunny read on Halloween without a TED talk. Ears, a tail that doesn’t knock drinks, a bodysuit that can handle a squat. Keep the floor clear. Those looks fail when the tail is a tripwire and the ears hit the ceiling fan in a low Chinatown walk-up.

Playboy-adjacent bunny is a silhouette, not a brand night. No logos. No club name on the cuffs. Just the shape, in a room you control, for adults.

Date first, wig second

Fri Oct 30 and Sat Oct 31 are the peak. Lock the date early. Cosplay takes more back-and-forth than a cop costume. That’s extra reason to call before the week of. I’m not quoting a roster from here. I’m telling you those two nights are when people actually throw this party.

Write a door time. Cosplay guests run late because the subway plus a wig is a project. Give them a window to get in the door before the set. Don’t start while half the list is still in the stairwell taking mirror pictures.

What to send me

Borough. Date. Headcount. Female. Silhouette and colors, not a copyrighted name if you can help it. Stairs or elevator. Ceiling height if you know it. Anyone not in the party sleeping in the back room.

Clear the coffee table. Path to the bathroom. Jack-o’-lanterns off the patch. When the set ends, volume down. Halloween lofts already have a noise complaint waiting.

Bring a covered layer for the walk in. A cosplay look that can’t wear a coat up the stairs is a look that doesn’t belong in a walk-up. Keep the night looking like a house.

If two people in the group want two different games, pick one silhouette. Last thing I need is a tug of war in the hallway over a wig color. You pick. I match.

String lights are fine. A fog machine in a one-bedroom with no window is how you set off an alarm. Skip the fog. I’ve seen it. It’s not cute.

People forget the coat. October 31 in this city is cold on the stoop even when the apartment is hot. Have a cover-up by the door so nobody is standing in the hallway in costume arguing about the buzzer.

If two friends want two different start times, you pick one. The show starts when you said it starts, not when the last person finishes a cigarette downstairs.

Call when the night is real

Lock Fri Oct 30 or Sat Oct 31 if that’s the plan. Then we talk wigs. Call (929) 235-8788 with the date and who’s at the door.

I danced for 22 years. Honest take: skip the eight-foot prop. Call when the list is closed and the look is a silhouette, not a court case.
